Pacific Hwy upgrade project cracking on at Urunga | Coffs Coast Advocate

IT’S one of the biggest infrastructure projects the country has seen and the next instalment of the Pacific Highway upgrade is ploughing ahead at what seems like a cracking pace.

Just south of Urunga, vast swathes of forest have been cleared and earthworks and drainage are clearly under way.

The project includes upgrading the 22km from Nambucca Heads to Urunga to four-lane divided highway, bypassing Urunga and rejoining the already upgraded section to the north via a new Kalang River bridge and new interchange at Raleigh.

Lend Lease was chosen as the preferred contractor and work started on January 15, with an expected completion date in 2016.

Roads and Maritime Services said the project was expected to take less time than the Sapphire to Woolgoolga section because of the nature of the terrain and less overlap with the existing highway, despite being a comparable distance.
