The old factory up Church Street Lane has been converted into a dynamic and sophisticated venue, The Bellingen Brewery & Co. Featuring Bellingen’s local craft brewery and a boutique bar, The Bellingen Brewery & Co. serves it’s very own beers and ferments with a cellar door style and feel. The bar also offers a select collection of fine wines and cocktails, highlighting organic and local ingredients. The space has been designed with great consideration to create a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere, local and reclaimed timbers and materials were used, along with a few local artisan made features. The Bellingen Brewing Company’s expansion and move into this location was driven by a desire to create a sustainable, eco conscious and ‘new model’ business. We are very passionate about creating a unique place and experience, we share this space with Big Fig Arts, an artists run initiative. Together we showcase and share the diverse harvests that Bellingen offers.
.they combine the spirit of old-time roots music, the energy of the new young string-bands, and the musicianship of bluegrass. Add a touch of jug band and a bit of folk and you get a spirited sound that will have you tapping your feet or looking for a partner to dance with – the best way to describe it is “infectious!”” Mark Hudson USA The Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association 2012

Over many years the Hall has been an integral part of the lively Bellingen culture, from the balls of old and the rock concerts of the seventies, to the Bellingen Jazz Festival origins in the nineties and the Bellingen Art Prize in the two thousands. The Hall is used for everything from public meetings and weekly classes to plays, gigs, movies, auctions, school events and more. A wonderful array of touring acts has passed through the Hall and this, coupled with local festivals has given Bellingen a nationally recognised reputation as a cultural hub, despite it being a small country town.

To be a sculptor presents an interesting moral decision, With the current harvesting of resources globally (forests, minerals, metals, stone etc) becoming increasingly more finite due to deforestation, open cut mining, mass production methods and unsustainable demand, what then becomes an ethical material to use in the making of an artwork? That question led me to consider the fact that so many materials already exist. In our backyards, trashcans, garages, junkyards, wreckers and sidewalks. The scale on which we create waste is magnificent. This opened up so many possibilities. For me waste materials present a beautiful invitation to embrace the concept of renewal and innovation.

His big heart helped so many people out there. He would always go the extra mile with everyone he met.

“It is indeed sad to be facing the loss of the old Camphors in Church Street which have given shade and character to our town these past decades. It is also sad to feel the division within our community this issue is causing. The journey of becoming a new councillor has been one of significant learning, along the way having to come to terms with the responsibilities, constraints and opportunities of the position. In this process I have come to realise how easy it is to stand in the public arena and use incomplete information and half-truths to create an impression that something has happened or not happened in a particular way. It is also possible from the public arena to be ‘single issue’ and only see or address that part of an issue or situation which concerns or interests you personally. Now, 7 months in, we are tasked with the implementation of the Main Street Plan, and the ‘Camphor debate’ has become another example of half-truths and single issues.
