SAVE BELLO HOSPITAL RALLY 24 JULY 2010

Today was the day for the SAVE BELINGEN HOSPITAL RALLY at MAAM GADUYING PARK.

I started the day at the growers’ markets. Bellingen struck it lucky with clear skies and warm weather.

The Markets are a little small in Mid Winter. We eat and walk and stock up on vegies and fruit. This week we then headed over the bridge and into town for the Hospital Rally.

I am going to paste a goodly amount of images here in case there is someone who would like to see. As I have said before, I am timid when it comes to photography and work with the little Fuji outfit I got for my 60th birthday last year. Not ingredients for   a successful  activist. I am, however, prolific and sneaky so I have snapped a good few shots albeit blurred and I am also quick so they are up on site straight away.

The rally was intentionally held today to match with a project of Ridley Scott’s. That meant there were some fine filmmakers there and some top quality cameramen. I do mean Men. These will be out soon and will show people’s faces rather than their rear views and also include the audio which I had difficulty hearing because the ukelele players sat at a table in MAAM GADUYING Park and played Ukelele  whilst singing Hawaiian songs while the Speakers were on. I do not know why.

Keep your eyes out for those Videos, Images and News items.

Now lets see what we can salvage from the FUJIFILM Camera and what I can recall of the Speakers and events.  Check my photoblog as well in case I have managed to capture something which interests you.

The Doctors spoke of the need for Mental Health Units as well as our A & E and Maternity. I would be bringing the Children’s Ward back as well and Detox for Drugs and Alcohol.

The Rally headed up out of the Park and up Hyde Street.  An Armoured  Car led the way and that was impressive. One thing which also impressed me was the cross section of community. Age, Sex, Race, Cultural Inclination were all covered.

LUNCH AT THE PROVIDORE.

Gateway to Gleniffer.

Today involved a doctor’s visit. Not something I do often or willingly. I headed to the North Bello Surgery and was thinking back 30 plus years to when I passed the big red-headed doctor standing there with not a patient on his books. In I went, parking the Suzuki out front. I am not monogamous in my medical relationships but I have been to North Bello Surgery many times. It is the only place in which I have ever fainted and I wasn’t the patient. I would, perhaps,  have done better to not watch the stitches being taken out of my girl’s leg.

I like this house in the pic. Up on the Hill above the Prov.

Doctors done, we took lunch at the Providore en Famille. Good shop, the Prov. I heard it called ‘the Gateway to Gleniffer’ on 2BBB the other day.

Good thinking. We filled in a nice hour there between Docs and blood tests. The Prov has a top range of brooms and brushes – better than I was able to get in Tweed Heads. It also has Worts Organic Drinks ( 4 for $10) . Thur, Fri and Sat nights – freshly cooked Thai Food is available. There’s liquor and food and drinks and fruit and vegies – in fact a GENERAL STORE. I miss GENERAL STORES. With Take Aways.

I wonder why TWEED has the monopoly on BAIT. I have just lived on the Tweed from 2001-2009. I like the Tweed but I wonder abut the Bait.

I wonder about the ICE as well. Does anyone know where the ICE is made now? And how?

After lunch, we took the Valery Road back to Raleigh. I haven’t been on that road for quite a long time and had forgotten the breath take of coming out into the bowls of the Valley.
